Troy, an ancient city located in today’s northwestern Turkey, was seized by Spartan and Achaean warriors from Greece in the 13th or 12th century B.C. This historical fact was immortalized by Homer in the Iliad, which has served as an inspiration to artistic creations ever since. Based on the excavation discoveries from the famous German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, there is a historical core to the ancient city and the war, which most scholars now accept.
