Epiphany, locally known in Ethiopia as the festival of Timket (meaning baptism), is a mainstream Ethiopian festival celebrating the baptism of Jesus at the Jordan River.

The Ethiopian Orthodox celebration of Epiphany is unique in the world, the Orthodox Church itself being one of the branches of Christianity, which has been the main religion of the country since the fourth century.

Although other Christian denominations also celebrate Epiphany, it is almost exclusively Ethiopia that hosts such a colourful and gorgeous celebration.
