Many people are not familiar with Panama City and they only know it has the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal. Panama City is actually one of the most internationalised and dynamic metropolises in Central America. Due to its colonial history, Panama City has a rich and vibrant blend of cultures. It has gradually developed into a trade and immigration centre in Central America. Like many big cities in the world, Panama City has its bustling side, especially its new town where glass walls, reinforcement steel and concrete buildings are found everywhere. Vehicles travelling between banks, casinos and construction sites season the tropical city with stuffiness. However, Panama City offers many options to escape from the modern busy life. The best way is probably to stay in “the past”. For instance, the ruins of Panamá Viejo in which the European colonists first settled. In San Felipe (Casco Viejo), a historic district in Panama City, there are a lot of iconic colonial buildings preserved, allowing you to wander in the history of the city with your footsteps.
