Programme Introduction
Embark on a unique journey to discover the hidden water facilities
The Western Salt Water Service Reservoirs, nestled within a hillside cavern, is the first of its kind in Hong Kong. Situated near the University of Hong Kong's Centennial Campus and the historic Grade III Elliot Pumping Station and Filters with Staff Quarter, this operating reservoirs has also served as a backdrop for popular films like Cold War.
For the first time, this Instagrammable site opens its doors for a public art experience. Each participant will receive a specially designed rainstick to explore the cavern's unique environment. Immerse yourself in a sensory adventure, where vivid projections, silhouetted figures, the sound of flowing rain and rhythmic drumbeats combine to create a one-of-a-kind experience. After the Rain is a multimedia sound installation collaboratively created by local arts collectives Toolbox Percussion and Dimension Plus, along with Singaporean composer Lee Jiayi.
“After the Rain” is divided into three parts:
Part 1 | Exclusive to group tours: A docent-led introduction to the daily operations, unique geography and architectural features of the Western Salt Water Service Reservoirs, along with the historical significance of the nearby Grade III Elliot Pumping Station and Filters with Staff Quarter. |
Part 2: | A walk through the reservoirs where you can use your specially designed rainstick to interact with the drumbeats and vivid projections, crafting your own sensory adventure. |
Part 3: | Group tour visitors will receive an exclusive Asia+ Festival souvenir. |
