Montane Mansion "Monster Building" - Photography Hotspots

Quarry Bay has become a popular social media destination for visitors to Hong Kong, as well as for photographers capturing portraits of Hong Kong's old town.

The building complex is divided into five buildings: Oceanic Building, Fok Cheong Building, Montane Mansion, Yick Cheong Building and Yick Fat Building, which are what we now call "Monster Building". The surrounding colorful buildings stand in stark contrast to the density of Hong Kong architecture. In recent years, the "Monster Building" has been transformed from an old building into a "photo hot spot", especially with the long strip of patio between the buildings, which has attracted many locals and even tourists to come and pay a visit.

It was the setting for some of the scenes in the popular films Transformer 4 and Ghost in The Shell. The films made a big hit, and the location has attracted many professional photographers to the area to inspire their work.

Before the "Monster Building" became popular, the courtyard between the Oceanic Building and Montane Mansion used to be a social hub for the residents, where elderly often gathered to play cards and chit chat. After it became a popular destination, it has less about the daily life of Hong Kong people and more about business. The new buildings and cafes that surround it bring a visual impact of the old and the new.
