Zhaoqing has a long history and was called Duanzhou in ancient times. In 1118 AD, Zhao Ji, the Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty, granted the title of Duanzhou King before he ascended the throne, so he personally gave a royal letter to change Duanzhou to Zhaoqing, meaning "a happy and auspicious beginning".

Zhaoqing, about 90 kilometers away from Guangzhou, is located in the "throat" of the Pearl River Delta and the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, which connects the southwest of China. It is the only important node city in the Greater Bay Area bordering the southwest. With convenient transportation and picturesque scenery, it is a national civilized city, one of the first batch of excellent Chinese tourist cities, and a national historical and cultural city. As the old tourist cities in Guangdong, Qixingyan and Dinghu Mountain have long been famous, and they are also rare ecological barriers in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Bay Area.
