Tourist Attractions in Zimbabwe 1. One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World:  "The Smoke That Thunders" Victoria Falls

"The Smoke That Thunders" Victoria Falls

Located at the confluence of the Zambezi River, bordering the northwestern part of Zimbabwe and Zambia, Victoria Falls stands as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. This grand waterfall was formed 150 million years ago, spanning approximately 1,688 metres wide, twice the width of Niagara Falls. The Zambezi River rushes tumultuously, creating a resounding roar as the falls cascade down, earning the local name "Mosi-oa-Tunya”,  which means "the smoke that thunder". Standing at a distance from the falls, you will not only be amazed by its power but also drawn in by the vivid rainbows formed by the sunlight touching the mist, as if you were in a dream world.

After admiring the falls, consider visiting the Victoria Falls Bridge. The sight of this approximately 200-metre-long bridge spanning a deep chasm is awe-inspiring. The bridge also offers exhilarating activities like bungee jumping, bridge swinging, and bridge sliding, allowing you to appreciate this spectacular view from various angles.

On the edge of Victoria Falls is a naturally formed infinity pool known as the Devil's Pool, with an abyss hundreds of metres deep below. Despite its name, would you dare plunge into this pool?

Tourist Attractions in Zimbabwe 2. The Stone City: Great Zimbabwe National Monument

The Great Zimbabwe National Monument was once the capital of the famous Queen Sheba, and it is an ancient archaeological site of the Bantu civilisation, listed as one of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites. The word "Great Zimbabwe" in the Shona language means "Stone City". Due to the numerous stone ruins found within Great Zimbabwe, the country was named "Zimbabwe".

During the late Iron Age, Great Zimbabwe served as the capital of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe, holding supreme political power. The most striking feature of the entire site is its gigantic and intact walls, ingeniously connected without any mortar. These stones, standing strong since ancient times, symbolise Zimbabwe's ancient culture. Walking through these vast and profound ruins, even in their partial ruin, you can still deeply sense the splendour of its past civilisation.
